Position: Manager – Energy Contract
Job Objective
The primary responsibility of the Manager (Energy Contract) is to review, vet, and negotiate agreements related to the transmission of energy and associated legal matters. The role also involves providing professional legal opinions on contractual issues to ensure compliance, protect company interests, and facilitate smooth operations.
Key Responsibilities
- Support the Chief Law Officer (CLO) in reviewing and managing contracts and agreements concerning energy transmission and related legal matters.
- Assist in the drafting, negotiation, and vetting of a variety of legal documents, including agreements, deeds, and other formal instruments.
- Participate in negotiations and preparation of agreements with Independent Power Producers (IPPs) and generation companies. This includes Tripartite Power Purchase Agreements (TPPAs) and security documents such as Direct Agreements to PPAs.
- Coordinate with external legal counsel for the review and feedback on contractual terms whenever required.
- Ensure all agreements comply with organizational policies, applicable regulations, and industry best practices.
- Oversee the quality and accuracy of all work produced by the Contracts Section to ensure strategic alignment with company objectives.
- Manage and guide subordinate staff, assign tasks, and monitor performance to meet Key Performance Indicators (KPIs) set by the CLO.
- Identify and communicate the Contracts Section’s technology and operational needs to the CLO and relevant departments.
- Facilitate the professional development of team members through training and conduct periodic performance evaluations.
- Undertake any additional tasks or responsibilities assigned by the CLO.
Required Qualifications and Skills
- Bachelor’s degree in Law (LLB) with at least 8 years of post-qualification experience, including a minimum of 3 years in active law practice and at least 3 years in corporate and regulatory affairs.
- Professional experience gained through reputable law firms or as in-house counsel in corporate organizations will be considered essential.
- A Master’s degree in Law (LLM) or being a Barrister-at-Law will be considered a strong advantage.
- Must be proficient in using computers and legal research tools.
- Knowledge of laws and regulations relevant to the electricity and energy sector will be an added benefit.
- Age limit: Maximum 40 years as of the application closing date.
