Position Objective
The primary responsibility of the Manager (Energy Contract) is to evaluate, review, and vet draft agreements, ensuring all contractual obligations and terms are legally sound and aligned with the interests of the company. The role requires providing expert legal advice on matters involving energy transmission agreements, allied contracts, and regulatory issues. This position demands a professional who can ensure compliance with laws, negotiate effectively, and safeguard the company’s contractual commitments.
Key Responsibilities
- Legal Support: Assist the Chief Law Officer (CLO) in overseeing contracts and agreements relating to the transmission of energy and related services from a legal standpoint.
- Negotiation & Drafting: Provide expert assistance in drafting, reviewing, and vetting a wide range of agreements, deeds, and legal instruments.
- Independent Power Producers (IPPs) & Generation Companies: Take part in negotiating, drafting, and finalizing contracts with independent power producers and generation companies, including handling Tripartite Power Purchase Agreements (TPPAs), security documents, and direct agreements to PPA.
- External Legal Coordination: Liaise with external legal counsel for reviewing and finalizing draft agreements and contracts.
- Quality Assurance: Ensure that all work products and services delivered by the Contracts Section meet high-quality standards and are aligned with the company’s policies, compliance requirements, and strategic objectives.
- Team Management: Provide guidance and direction to subordinate staff, delegate responsibilities effectively, and ensure the timely achievement of assigned goals.
- Performance Monitoring: Define performance benchmarks, monitor the output of team members, and evaluate results based on Key Performance Indicators (KPIs) set by the CLO.
- Technology Integration: Identify and communicate the technology requirements of the Contracts Section to ensure smooth operations.
- Staff Development: Oversee the professional development of subordinate staff, conduct periodic performance appraisals, and provide constructive feedback for growth.
- Other Duties: Perform additional tasks and responsibilities assigned by the Chief Law Officer (CLO) as required.
Required Qualifications & Specifications
- Education:
- A Bachelor’s degree in Law (LLB) is mandatory.
- Candidates with a Master’s degree in Law (LLM) or those who are Barristers-at-Law will be given preference.
- Experience:
- Additional Skills:
- Strong knowledge of laws governing the electricity and energy sector will be an advantage.
- Candidates must be proficient in computer use and legal documentation.
- Age Limit:
- Maximum age allowed is 40 years on the closing date of the application.
