🔧 Position Title: Deputy Lead Engineer – Corrosion Control
Job Code: 8439-02
Location: Karachi & Sindh Region
📚 Minimum Educational Requirements
- Must hold a Bachelor’s degree in Engineering, preferably in Metallurgy, Mechanical, or Electrical disciplines from a recognized institution.
- Candidates must be registered with PEC (Pakistan Engineering Council).
- Additional certifications such as AMPP/NACE, API, or TWI in Cathodic Protection or Coating Inspection will be a valuable asset and strongly preferred.
🛠️ Professional Experience
- A minimum of 8 years of post-qualification, relevant experience is required.
- The ideal candidate should possess a strong background in pipeline integrity management, corrosion protection strategies, and cathodic protection systems.
- Prior experience in a public sector utility, or an oil & gas industry environment, will be given preference.
🧭 Role Purpose and Key Responsibilities
This critical position is central to ensuring the long-term integrity and protection of SSGC’s gas pipeline infrastructure across Karachi and the broader Sindh region. The role involves:
- Developing and implementing comprehensive corrosion management plans for existing and newly laid pipelines and gas distribution infrastructure.
- Conducting detailed inspections of corrosion control systems, including cathodic protection stations, buried pipeline routes, and pipeline construction sites.
- Ensuring the physical condition of pipelines is maintained within their design envelope and operational safety standards throughout their service life.
- Performing root cause analysis and proposing technical solutions to combat degradation mechanisms such as rust, pitting, stress corrosion cracking, and other threats to pipeline health.
- Supervising field teams and coordinating inspection activities, corrosion mapping, and remedial actions in alignment with national and international safety standards.
- Accurately documenting technical assessments, preparing analytical inspection reports, and recommending proactive measures to eliminate future risks.
- Engaging in the selection and application of protective coatings, sacrificial anodes, and impressed current cathodic protection systems to maximize pipeline longevity.
- Contributing to design reviews, technical audits, and integrity assessments as part of the company’s asset reliability framework.
